Useful links
I am always being asked to recommend good websites for info on writing. Obviously these are constantly changing, but I'll do my best to keep these up to date. Do let me know about other good ones you use cos it's great to share info.
For info on what the BBC are looking for in terms of scripts (and how to submit them, lay them out properly, etc) the BBC Writersroom site is vg.
If you want constantly changing inspiration, then The Guardian's free on-line writing workshops give loads of really good ideas.
NAWE (the National Association of Writers in Education) are an excellent organisation for all writers - even if you don't work in schools. And they provide all sorts of professional development support for writers. They recently had ALL their funding cut by the Arts Council, but they are still managing to put out excellent information, and put on an amazing programme of events. Subscribe today!
Another useful site for advice and pointers to agents, markets, etc is The Writers and Artists Yearbook. This is printed in book form every year, coming out the previous summer - ie the 2012 version came out in June 2011. It is invaluable to search for where to place your short stories and fiction.
As a writer, I am always looking for opportunities of doing artwork in other forms as well as writing - all part of filling that creative well that we chuck our buckets down in the hopes of drawing up a truly brilliant story or poem or play! So, for instance, I regularly go on metalworking courses at the completely fabby Welban House in New Holland (on opp bank of Humber to Hull) - Pete and Alex are the best art tutors in the entire universe!
Also, whenever Janina and I go to the coast, we immediately set to and make stone sculptures to add to the wonderful World Beach Project - go on, have a go - it is soooo good for your spirit!
Apart from one, all the photos on my website were taken by my partner, Janina Holubecki - she's a really good photographer, copy-writer and editor, so do contact her if you need any photos or writing work!
