                                Kickstarting creative writing in Lochaber

I'll be running a day course on creative writing on Sat 3rd March in Fort William, Lochaber.  This is to help writers there get together, and start meeting regularly.  The course is already full, but if you'd like to be put on the waiting list, and/or be put in touch with other writers in the Western Highlands, then email Gay Anderson at: muesligirl@hotmail.com

HEA (the Higher Education Association) seminar

I've been asked to lead this seminar - which will be held at HUBS (Hull University Business School) on 3rd April 2012.  The theme will be:  'Finding Your Voice - developing creativity and improving written communication in business and management education.'

                                Working in the gorgeous
                                Yorkshire Dales National Park!

As a freelancer, it's really important to have a lot of irons in a lot of fires cos you never know where work might come from.  Karen Griffiths, the Interpretation Officer from Yorkshire Dales National Park, came down to see my Watershed exhibition at Cliffe Castle in Keighley, and, as a result, she asked me to work with exhibits from the museum, Dales community groups, and the wonderful the Dales Countryside Museum at Hawes, to produce poetry about the area. It's grrrreat working up in the Dales - where all my partner's family have lived for generations - and get to explore it in such a creative way!

I am working with children from Hawes Primary School, and residents from Sycamore Hall care home - they're a joy to work with, and they're producing loads of wonderful work.

If you'd like to be kept informed of courses and day workshops that I'll be running, or if you'd like to book me to run a course for YOU, please contact me .

                                Last year's work...

Throughout 2011, I have had a very intensive year running creative writing courses for the public, and for specific organisations including libraries, museums, art galleries, WEA, universities, schools, literary festivals and, of course, all my Watershed work up on the Pennine moors.

In January I ran CPD creative writing workshops for secondary teachers at
Dove Cottage Museum, and for teachers of disabled pupils in schools in Leeds.  And also worked with 6-11 year olds both in their schools and also in the Curiosity Shop in Armley - a fabby week-long resource set up by I Love West Leeds Arts Festival  with masses of wonderful artefacts from the Artemis service.  Check it out - they have a HUGE collection of brilliantly weird and wonderful stuff for all Leeds schools to borrow!

Throughout the rest of this year, I ran a range of creative writing courses for the public linked to
Cliffe Castle Museum, Saddleworth Museum and Art  Gallery  and the South Pennines moorlands because of being Writer-in-Residence for the South Pennines Watershed Landscape project.  This included working with young skateboarders and elderly residents of sheltered housing as part of Hebden Bridge Arts Festival!  I ran a workshop on writing about watersheds in our lives at Saddleworth Museum.  I also worked with deaf children from Bradford, an Asian women's group from Keighley, 65 ladies who do quilting and felt-making in Uppermill, an Oldham writers' group, a community choir, Todmorden U3A writers' group, Salford Women's Centre writing group, Ilkley Literature Festival, and Hull University Business School.

I've also judged the Annual Short Story Competition for Leeds Writers' Circle.  I really enjoyed the range of stories and styles they tackled, and I gave feedback to all participants and presented the prizes at The Carriageworks arts venue in Leeds in November.  I hope to run a workshop for the LWC in 2012.

If you'd like to be kept informed of courses and day workshops that I'll be running, or if you'd like to book me to run a course for YOU, please
